PortQry is graphical addition of command line utility portqry.exe that began with Windows 2000. It executes on Windows 2000, Server 2003 and XP with TCP/IP installed.
PortQry reports the port status of TCP and UDP ports on a PC that you select and reports status in one of the following three ways.
Listening
a method is listening on port on PC that you chosen. Portqry.exe received a reply from port.
Not listening
not any method is listening on destination port on target system. PortQry got an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) "Destination Unreachable - Port Unreachable" message from destination UDP port.
Filtered
The port on PC that you chosen is being filtered. PortQry did not get a reply from port. A method may or may not be listening on port. TCP ports are queried three times, and UDP ports are queried one time before a report specifies that port is filtered.
