Windows XP Professional contains Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.1 which makes it probable for you to host your own Web site on Internet or intranet. IIS has a broad variety of administrative aspects for managing Web sites. Windows XP installation of IIS can service only ten simultaneous client connections and only one Web site. It does not have all the aspects of server version. It cannot be installed on Windows XP Home.

For installing IIS 5.1 on Windows XP Professional follow the steps given below:

1. Tick on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. Double tick Add or Remove Programs.
3. Tick on Add/Remove Windows Components.
4. Click on Internet Information Services (IIS) and then tick Details.

5. In IIS, check the boxes for SMTP Service and World Wide Web Service, and then tick OK. You can check File Transfer Protocol also if you would like to setup an FTP site.

6. In Windows Component choice, make sure that IIS check box is chosen, and then tick OK to install components that you chosen. You want to put Windows XP Professional CD through installation

7. IIS console can be placed under Administrative Tools

After you are completed you can proceed and setup your website using IIS console.
