DHCP scope is a bunch of IPs and related configuration data that can be provided to a DHCP client. A Scope must be defined and enable before DHCP clients can access DHCP server for changing TCP or IP configuration.
· Open DHCP console under Administrative Tools.
· In console tree, first left click, and then right click DHCP server to make new DHCP scope, and then hit New Scope.
· Under New Scope section, press Next button, enter a name and description for scope, and hit Next button.
· On IP Address Range Page, enter range of addresses that can be rented as part of scope. As these addresses are offered to clients, they should all be valid and unused addresses for network. The original subnet mask that corresponds to IP address range is offered. To use another subnet mask, enter new subnet mask, and hit Next button.
· On Add exclusions page, under Start box, enter starting of IP address range to keep out and under End box, entrée end of IP address range to keep out. To keep out single IP address, under Start box, enter that IP address.
· Select Add and do again step number five till all IP addresses to keep out are specified. Keep out any addresses statically allocated. Press Next button.
· On Lease Duration page, inert number of days, hours, and minutes before an IP address rent from scope expires. This decides how long a client can hold a rented address without renewing it. The original rent duration is of 8 days. Press Next button.
· On configure DHCP Options page, press “Yes, I Want To Configure These Options Now” to use most common DHCP options like IP address of factory gateways, DNS servers, and WINS settings. Press Next button.
· On Router page, enter IP address for factory gateway that should be used by clients that get IP address from scope. Select Add to put factory gateway address in list, and press Next button.
· On Domain Name and DNS Servers page, on DNS servers on network, enter companies domain name in Parent domain box.
· On Domain Name and DNS Servers page, entry name of DNS server and select Resolve to make sure that the DHCP server can connect DNS server and decide its address.
· On Domain Name and DNS Servers page, select Add to add server in list of DNS servers allocated to DHCP clients. Press Next button.
· On WINS Servers page, enter IP address of WINS server on network and select Add. If unaware of IP address, in Server name box, enter name of WINS server and select Resolve. Once added WINS servers, press Next button.
· On Activate Scope page, select “Yes, I Want To Activate This Scope Now” to enable scope and enable clients to get rents from it, and press Next button.
· On Completing The New Scope Wizard page, press Finish button.
