Make that the wireless card in you laptop is on. Look for a button or a switch either on the outside edge of the keyboard or on the exterior corner of the laptop. This switch could either be labelled "wireless" or "radio", This button enables and disables your laptop's internal wireless network card.

On some systems, the wireless is turned on/off with a key combination: Fn+F2 being a common one. If it still doesn't work, there could be various reasons for this, and it varies with laptop brands. Here are a few generic pointers for Windows 2DDD/XP systems:

o Check the encryption: Your laptop must be able to keep up with the encryption that your network is using. You might need to lower the encryption bits or disable the security all together. o Right-click on "My Computer" and then click on "Properties".

 Click on the "Device Manager" tab.

 Then right-click on your wireless card and click "Properties". Here make sure that the Power Management of the wireless card is set to "on-highest".

o Shutdown your laptop and then restart it after 3D seconds. Also reset your router by pressing the reset button and holding it for 5 seconds.

o Ensure that the Wireless Zero Configuration service is turned on. To do this, select "Start I Run" and type "services.msc" in the "Run" dialog box and press "Enter". Scroll down and make sure that this service is enabled. You might need to stop and restart.
