A closed source system is one in which the source code cannot be accessed without the express permission of the owner of the soft ware product. Much of the software these days is closed source and software companies charge a license fee for using their program. As compared to open source software, the license to the end user only permits usage of the software product and does not allow them to reverse engineer the product or derive the source code for the product.
