    Default MS Excel

I am having a strange problem in MS Excel for a few days now. When I copy a file and paste it anywhere on my computer and then try to rename it by right-clicking and going through the context menu, . a window appears stating 'the file will not be usable if you change the extension'. Then I have to deselect the words '.xls' from the name of the file and only then am I able to rename it. This was not the case before. What should I do about this issue?

There is no problem with your system or with Ms Excel. You have enabled the Windows Explorer to unhide extensions for all known file types. It means that the system will show the extension names of all the files. Hence you can see the extension name also. This extension also gets renamed when you change the name of the file. This is not the case with Windows Vista, it usually occurs with Windows XP and earlier versions. To undo this, start the Windows Explorer, click on 'Tools I Folder options', then select the :View' tab. In the, window below, check the box that reads 'Hide extensions for known file types'. Click on 'Apply' and then 'OK'. Your file viewing system should go back to normal.
