Google's mobile operating system Android is not only popular among smartphone manufacturers and users. Also, malware writers have now zeroed in on Android. The Magdeburg Institute test AV-Test has therefore seven free anti-virus apps from the Android Market brought to the test. The results are sobering.
The tests conducted by AV-Test on a Samsung GalaxyTab (GT-P1010) with Android 2.2.1. The seven free anti-virus apps
have been installed from the Android Market. The commercial products used for comparison of F-Secure and Kaspersky have the manual scan more than half of the 172 used in the test and every ten pests detected while attempting to install.
Among the free programs with Zoner AntiVirus Free only one that carries the label anti virus with right in name. The Zoner app has at least scan the device memory detected 55 of 172 pests. The guard has eight out of ten pests detected while trying to install it. All other rather run under the motto a blind chicken finds a grain of time - apart from the Kinetoo app (11 of 172 identified), you must call them almost as clean air numbers. Protection they offer, anyway.
