The XFX Radeon 5970 Black Edition by default has the same core and memory clock as the non-BE edition bu t that's where the similarity ends. The BE tag gives you exclusive access to the XFX 'over volt' tool. However, no games come bundled which is not expected from a premium product. It is a dual GPU setup mounted on a single dual-slot video card.
The 5970 posted a record score of 21,547 in 3D Mark Vantage. In real world tests, the 5970 beats the GTX 295 even at stock settings. This HD5970 is a little faster than the AMD Radeon 5970 we tested last month. All this brutal power comes at a heavy cost. It comes with the reference cooler which struggles to keep it cool even at stock settings and the card gets really hot, which makes it very clear that overclocking the card will need additional cooling and a prospective buyer needs to be sure his/ her cabinet is large enough with sufficient ventilation for this mammoth 13-inch card. We faced some instability issues as well while running some benchmarks.
