Such problems are likely to be caused by your graphics/video card [or lack of it!. To view Google Earth in all its glory, please note that you need a 3D card. A lot of onboard video cards [which are built into the motherboard) are not truly 3D cards, but just 3D accelerators that offer some basic 3D capability. So, if you observe any graphic anomalies, check your motherboard manual for details.

Sometimes, all that you need to do is update your graphic card driver to solve a lot of these issues. Avoid any beta drivers that manufacturers might offer; just download and install the most recent stable version. Most 3D graphics cards have chipsets from popular manufacturers such as Nvidia, and Intel. For some graphics cards, it's also necessary to install DirectX 8.1 [or higher) from Microsoft. Even though OpenGL is used for 3D rendering, some OpenGL drivers wrap DirectX internally. Microsoft currently has DX9.0c, but DX8.1 and beyond should work just as well.

If you perform these upgrades and the problem persists, it may help to set OX as your default renderer. To do so, please follow these steps:
 Go to "Start I Programs".
 Hover over your version of Google Earth and select "Set Google Earth rendering to DirectX".
 Restart Google Earth.
Note that a minimum screen size of 1024x768 pixels is required to view Google Earth correctly. Also, True Color (32-bit) resolution and a sufficient graphics card are required for filled polygons; otherwise, they will be displayed as outlines only.
