i dont know of any card $1000, but since 1000 is alot to you then 500 must be med and 300 must be cheap for you, so go buy yourself the best card that cost only $300the nvidia 8800GTATI/AMD suck, go with nvidia since you got intelfor gaming go with windows xp as vista lags your online games.

The reason is that this graphics card is below average especially for vista home premium which 128mb for graphics is bare minimum. Take a look at the line of NVIDIA 8800 series of graphics cards..........Vista takes some getting used. Give it time and if it's not for you then go back to xp.http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=38&name=Video-Cards-Video-Devices

no brand favrotism, best one in price range:$135 budget:nVidia 8600GTS$175 budget:ATi HD3850$200 budget:Ati HD3870$235 budget:nVidia 8800GT 512MB$275 budget:nVidia 8800GTS 512MBanything lower than this range is a waste of time, i dont even reccomend going lower than the 3850. after the GTS, the next jump is up to $400 to get a GTX which is not significantly better. dont bother. shop @ newegg.com

Ok for the money you're willing to pay, assuming 500 is not too much since 1000 seems to be the limit, check this out:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130072That's up there and will play almost anything and after the rebate it is cheap.Or browse www.newegg.com on the video card section under Computer Hardware and check out what you will like, anything about 8800 GTX from Nvidia would be a monster, I think there is an Ultra which is better, usually the price would indicate the performance, make sure its an 8800 series though, and I would go with Nvidia over ATi right now, the 8800 GPUs are beasts.

I won't suggest specific cards, but I will say that I prefer nVidia. Also, if you plan on doing a lot of gaming with modern games, I would recommend you get something with at least 512MB ram. Also, in regards to keeping Vista or install XP, I would say keep vista. While I am not a huge fan of it and it takes up more system resources, it supports directx 10 and XP does not. Modern games are switching to directx 10 and you will need it if you want to get all of the effects the games are capable of producing. You may wish to up your ram a bit too if you want to play some of the modern games at the highest settings. 3Gigs will be sufficient for many things to run at good settings, but some games like Crysis will use everything you can give it even when you don't max out the the settings.

Your system there is pretty lopsided. It has an awesome processor, good memory, big hard drive and weakest non-integrated video card you can buy.I have a Radeon 2400Pro and just got one for a new system I'm building for myself and it is awesome for video's and HiDef output. I also love my Media Center that comes with Vista Premium -- wouldn't trade it for anything as I have 300 movies and all my CD's all hooked up to my LCD TV and stereo. Looks and works awesome with the HDMI output from my Radeon 2400.But for games, forget it. Really weak. For games I would look at one of two cards:ATI Radeon HD 3870 or Nvidia 8800GT. Either has a lot of horsepower for newer games and will serve you well in the future. Both have excellent picture quality and neither is outrageously expensive. My preference: I like picture quality from ATI cards more. However, I like the drivers from Nvidia more. ATI cards give me more freezes and crashes than the Nvidia cards I run. However, most of the time my ATI cards work fine and when I play games (on my other system with 2600XT) they look better. Looks are very much personal preference though. As for Vista vs XP. I use both at home. I love Vista Premium's Media Center for my stereo system. I love XP on my net surfin' computer as I find it faster and has fewer driver issues when I try out new hardware I bring home. For games XP is better for older Dx9 games as it uses less resources and runs faster. However, newer games are starting to take advantage of Dx10 which is Vista only and does look a little better.Personally I would keep Vista between the two as it is the one that will be around for the long run so might as well get used to it.
