if you are using a desktop computer try playing around with the menu button on the actual monitor, there will probably be a setting where you can change how far the display will be from the edge of your monitor

Default Need help with display on my monitor?

I have an HP Pavilion 520c, with Windows XP and the original monitor that came with the computer, the HP Pavilion MX70. I'm having a problem with the way my computer displays things, like the desktop and open windows and such. On the left side of the screen, text and images are being cut off, and on the right side of the screen there is just an area of black that measures about an inch wide and goes from the top of the screen to the bottom. It hasn't always been like this, and I'm sure it's like this because of something I did of my own fault. How do I fix it where the black is gone and the text and images on the left side of the screen are back to where I can read them?

Try lowering down the display settings. You might have set your display settings way over what your monitor display can handle.
