As expected, ATI's 40nm RV740 graphics chip is indeed coming for mainstream soon. An engineering graphics card based on 40nm process. The RV740 graphics chip will be RV730's successor and the graphics card might be slotted for mid-range segment.
At the end of last year, ATI was reported to launch 40nm process RV740 in early. ATI will name RV740 graphics chip housed graphics card as ATI Radeon HD 4750. The RV740 has 640 stream processors and core frequency of the engineering sample was clocked to 650MHz. With 32 texture units, ATI packs 512MB GDDR5 video memory clocked at 800MHz and overclockable to 3.2GHz.

Yet, the card uses 128-bit memory edge that offers bandwidth as much as a card using 256-bit memory interface for GDDR3 memory. But the fact remains that 128-bit memory interface is a cheaper design implementation. The tester mentions that the HD 4750's engineering sample offers estimated 900 GigaFLOPS of performance. Looking at the performance level, the HD 4750 performs nearly to HD 4850 and higher than HD 4830. It is built using 40nm processor packed with GDDR5 video memory the ATI Radeon HD 4750 will be a mid-range card and challenge with NVIDIA 9800GT graphic card.
