There are two new entrants that deserve a special mention in the list of top-end GPUs. Both of these competed with each other for the "fastest single-chip graphics card" title recently.
The Radeon HD 4890, the successor to the HD 4870 with a higher clock speed, beat the overclocked GeForce GTX 285 with a narrow margin. The price-performance ratio of AMD's new graphics chip is even more interesting than its performance. At a price of Rs 18,000, the Radeon HD 4890 is by far the most affordable among the top ten GPUs-a clear purchase tip for all those who want top-notch performance for a great price. The third new entrant falls in the mid-range category. Nvidia's new GeForce GTS 250 is a slightly modified remake of the GeForce 9800 GTX+. Both of them feature similar core and memory speeds. However, the GTS 250 has twice as much video memory. We found no difference in performance with the additional 512 MB video memory.
It's performed equally well as the GeForce 9800 GTX+ with 512 MB RAM. In the "Enemy Territory: Quake Wars" and "World in Conflict" benchmarks, the 9800 GTX+ beats the newcomer by a small margin. The only advantage you get with the GTS 250 is that it requires only a single PCI Express power connector. Also the GTS 250 is slightly smaller in length that than the 9800 GTX+. Priced at Rs 10,000 as compared to Rs 11,500 for 9800 GTX+, the new GeForce GTS 250 is also our purchase recommendation of the month.
