Your new GeForce 8800-series graphics card gives trouble with 3D games. The picture refreshes too slowly and pixel errors that appear when playing games, spoiling the fun. Even the latest Nvidia drivers do not have a solution to this problem.

The root cause of this trouble is defective memory management of textures, the so-called 'VRAM bug'. At times, some programs do not delete unnecessary textures properly; the memory, especially that of the GeForce 8800 GTS 320 MB then gets full very quickly, especially when the resolution is high. The 3D game jerks a lot as a result.

Nvidia and Microsoft are already working together solve this problem. On the other hand, the Forceware Beta Driver version 163.44 (available at nZone - PC Games, PC Game Demo, DX 10 Games, New PC Game, PC Game Downloads) still makes some small changes in memory management, thereby improving system stability. Vista users should also use the Windows patches KB938194, KB938979 and KB9401 05.

A complete solution should, however, be available with the next official driver. Users can make do with a trick until then: poor performance in some 3D games can be prevented by switching the active application window under Windows with the key combination [ALTI + [TAB] This erases the texture memory in the graphics memory.
