LCD monitors are becoming affordable and the Acer H233H - a 23-inch widescreen display that offers more than just a good screen area - is a fine example. The monitor offers great value for money and suffices for a plethora of applications. Native resolution is 1920 x 1080, which means no more ugly black bands around movie frames and games. The aspect ratio is 16:9, so watching movies and playing games at full-HD resolutions is a treat - provided your computer's graphics card can handle it. Input options include HDMI, DVI, VGA and audio-in jack. The built-in speakers are about average in quality and loudness. If you're looking to buy a TV, you can connect this to an external TV tuner which doesn't cost much.

Looks-wise, it's absolute eye-candy, with its glossy jet-black frame, and oval stand that shows off a galaxy-black tint. The beveled edges add to the casual look which goes well with multimedia and gaming themes. The all-glossy finish might be distracting in a brightly lit environment though. The touch-sensitive and responsive menu controls, despite remaining lit at all times aren't bright enough to hurt the eyes. As far as the build quality is concerned, the H233H is robust. But, with very little swivel, no tilt and no height adjustment, there are limitations to flex the unit to suit your viewing angle.
