Is there any technique to acquire rid of the solid blocks of color, by the knockout white type, other than reverting to the windows classic theme?

When right clicking on PC or going into the control panel>system you click on the higher system settings>performance button. That's where you set all to one of the , "best appearance", "best performance", or "custom" options there.

One time that is done you can select the custom to enable only those things like shadows under icons or leave certain ones unchecked.

Even with Vista on the Virtual computer you would just right click on the desktop and select personalization and then the "Window Color and Appearance link.

From there you continue into the advanced and belongings areas to select or check or uncheck the different items as far as color or things like shadows.
