Nvidia's GeForce 9600 GT raised the performance bar for mainstream graphics cards with stunning performance at an attractive price. What we got our hands on this time is a 9600 GT with a slightly different flavor, the Gigabyte GV-NX96T512H. Let's find out what's different this time.
FEATURES: This card uses ferrite core chokes and all-solid capacitors, which are not found on regular 9600 GT cards. It also ditches the reference design of the GeForce 9600 GT, which resembles the GeForce 8800 GT with a heat sink that spans the entire length of the card and a small variable speed fan. Instead, it is equipped with a powerful Zalman VF700 AICu GPU cooler which features radially arranged copper and aluminium fins, and the fan sits in the center blowing away heat from the fins-excellent design!
The NX96T512H runs at stock speed and comes bundled with an application called Gamer HUD, which allows you to tweak the voltage, and overclock the card with great ease.
PERFORMANCE: The card performs like any other 9600 GT running at stock speed. However, it runs much cooler. This one doesn't heat up beyond 60 degrees C thanks to the custom cooler, whereas we have recorded reference 9600 GTs at around 65 degrees.
VERDICT: The GV-NX96T512H is a superb pick if you want better cooling and a long lifespan. The Zalman VF700-AICu justifies the premium this card commands.
FOR: Excellent cooling, all-solid capacitors, good performance.
AGAINST: No heat sink for the memory.
