Windows Vista makes it possible to increase the performance of some hard disks by enabling a feature called write caching. Launch the Device Manager by clicking Start, typing devmgmt.msc into the search box and pressing Enter. Double-click the Disk Drives entry and then double-click the entry for the Sata disk if there is one. Move to the Policies tab and tick the boxes labelled 'Enable write caching on the disk' and 'Enable advanced perfonnance' before clicking OK. If these options are not available then your hard disk does not support this feature.
