    Default Choice RAID controller

    Hello!

Prompt, please, how best to organize the disk subsystem:
There are 14 disks HDD 1 Tb SATA-II 300 Seagate / Maxtor Barracuda 7200.11/DiamondMax 22 <31000340AS> 7200rpm 32Mb, now employs about 12Tb. What raid controller and raided what to choose, so as not to lose credibility and win the race, and not much to lose in the redundancy of data. Yes, the files stored on the disk in large volume.

You can learn more - what mat. Plata, a shell, a basket, OS? And you know that simply is not able to gather an array of these 12Tb (or at least half) will have to be put somewhere before assembly?

2 x MultiCo <EW-H34ESR-Black> (EXT BOX for connecting external 4x3.5 "SATA devices, RAID, eSATA)
    the remaining 6 disks inside.
    OS: Win XP Pro 64-bit.

Initially, the PC is not calculated for use as a file server, I think it can be seen on the accessories.

As to where it will be possible to put the 12 TB maximum that could be off on other media - it is 5 800 GB. (The total amount of memory installed 14 TB).

14 disks in the shell, therefore, proposed to be left outside minim one basket, which does not interact with the controller. Moreover, if you have arrays larger than 2Tb without dancing with Diamonds, will change the OS on a 64-bit Vista (or 2003 SP2, that expensive).

First, you need to clear space on three or four discs collect them RAID5, overfilling it, accordingly, the information from two or three employees disks, then add them to the array (you can not add a disk to the array together with its contents, hence the complexity of such ), etc.
