Most PC saves data on hard drives. General hard drive interface is an IDE or integrated drive electronics drive. Installing IDE hard drive is usual task for any PC user and adds to PC's data-saving abilities.
Instructions
Step 1
Detach any power source to PC and free any fixed electricity by touching in PC case.
Step 2
Recognize IDE cable running from motherboard and terminating in IDE cable connector. End connector is selected master. Extra connectors on cable are slave connectors.
Step 3
Decide order of new IDE hard drive. Slave or extra IDE hard drives need jumpers to assign them slaves. Master hard drives require jumper to label them as main hard drive.
Step 4
See motherboard to find master IDE 1 connector and put in pilot into location. The area label IDE 1 or IDE MAIN is connector for master IDE hard drive.
Step 5
Include another IDE hard drives or devices to next IDE connector on motherboard. CDROM, DVD devices and extra hard disk storage is attached to this IDE 2 connector.
Step 6
Connect IDE hard drive to PCs case rails by given hardware. Four small screws are general method of protecting hard drive to case.
Step 7
Turn on PC to make sure PC identifies extra IDE hard drive.
