Hard drive in notebook PC is where all programs are saved. Without operational hard drive, notebook is slight over big paperweight. This is exactly why any spacious work done on hard disk must be hold by professional. Though, if you are looking to upgrade notebook's hard disk by changing it, do it manually, without need for service technician. The procedure takes time and attention, but it is feasible.
Instructions
Upgrading Hard Drive in PC Notebook
Step 1
Turn off notebook, disconnect it and turn it over. Find hard disk partition on bottom of notebook. It must be clearly marked, but if you are having problem finding it, then check with user manual.
Step 2
Take out screws that safe hard drive cover with Phillips head screwdriver and take out cover to disclose plastic tab sticking out of hard disk slot. This is attached to hard drive.
Step 3
Pull tab to take out hard drive. Take out two pegs on either side of metal hard drive housing. Take out metal housing from old hard drive and put on new hard drive. Protect with pegs and slide hard drive into slot so tab is sticking out. Change cover and turn on PC. Your hard drive is upgraded.
Upgrading Hard Drive in Mac Notebook
Step 1
Turn off Mac and flip it over. Put in penny into channel in lock in plastic battery cover and turn counterclockwise to release battery cover. Take out rectangular battery by lifting it up and sliding it out of its bay.
Step 2
Find metal L-bracket which runs along inside of battery bay. Take out four screws which hold it in place with screwdriver and take out bracket to disclose hard drive slot.
Step 3
Drag white tab sticking out of slot to take out hard drive from its slot. Take out two bolts on either side of metal hard drive covering. Take out metal housing from previous hard drive and put it on latest hard drive. Protect with bolts and put in hard drive in slot so white tab is sticking out.
Step 4
Change L-bracket, battery and battery cover. Turn on Mac notebook, and hard drive is improved.
