How to Change a Seagate Portable HDD from Read-Only
Seagate Portable HDD can create a backup copy of important data on your computer. However, formatting issues can cause your Seagate to be "read only", which means that you cannot more to add or remove data from your HDD. To fix this, You need to reformat your Seagate, to erase its current Settings and unlock it.
Reformatting the Seagate HDD on a PC
Right-click on "My Computer" and Select "Manage" from the list of options.2
Click "Disk Management" in the left side of the window. It will be placed under "Storage".
When a new window shows listing all of the drives currently connected to your PC, right-click on the drive listed as "Seagate" in the list of options and choose "Quick Format" from the list of formatting options.
Click "OK" when provoked to complete the reformatting of the HDD.
Reformatting the Seagate HDD on a Mac
Click the "Finder" icon in the menu bar of your Mac. Click "Utilities" from the list of options and then choose "Disk Utility" from the drop-down menu.
Press down the "Control" key and click on the drive listed as "Seagate" in the list that shows. Set the "Partition" tab at the top of the window and click on it. Choose "1 Partition" from the list of options, after that click the "Option" tab in the window and choose "Apple Partition Map Radio Button".
Click "OK" and after that click "Apply". Click "Partition" once prompted.
