Exterior hard drives, like those developed by Seagate, give way to back up vital data and media saved on PC. That is what take place when hard drive is put to "read only" mode. Means you can see data saved on drive, but can't add or delete data. But you can replace Seagate hard drive from "read only" without help of service technician. Just reformat hard drive.
Instructions
Windows
• Go to Start then "My Computer". Right click on it and select "Manage".
• Click "Disk Management". It shows all drives attached to PC.
• Right click on "Seagate" and choose "Quick Format".
• Click “Ok” when reformatting of hard drive is finished. Seagate fully reset to its default specifications, and it is not in read-only mode.
Macintosh
• Click “Finder” then click “Utilities” and choose “Disk Utility”. It shows drives attached to Mac.
• Press "Control" key and then click “Seagate”. Now click on "Partition" tab and choose "1 Partition". Click "Option" tab and choose "Apple Partition Map Radio Button."
• Click "OK" then "Apply." Click "Partition" when asked by PC. Now Seagate hard disk reformatted on Mac and reset to original settings; it is not in read-only mode.
