I am windows XP user. I am suffering from one issue. My Computer hangs when trying to access the hard drive on boot up. I can’t figure out why I am facing such problems and hence need your help in solving the issue. Please suggest some solutions.

I think your hard drive is not connecting properly. That’s why it will give you some kind of error message to hint you. Sometimes, although, a simple Task manager will do it because hard drives take so long to power up that they aren't ready when the computer tries to look for it.
You can download memtest and run it. After that try to gumboot your PC from windows CD, then go to mending console and run chkdsk . If this doesn’t work, then you capacity just have a damage file somewhere.
Follow the given steps:
• Make sure that the cooling fans on the processor are working correctly or not. So make sure that the fan is working well and is clean. Unless, after that fan replaced. Also make sure the additional fans on your computer cabinet.
• To solve this, run a disk scan which checks for disc errors and solves the bad areas. If there are bad parts which cannot be repaired, after that you should change your hard disc.
