Thread: How do I know which hard drive to get?

I recently buy new desktop computer with Linux OS but I do know that some hardware requires it to be compatible with a motherboard for it to work, right? My HDD has some bad sectors and I have no idea how to solve it. My planning is to buy a new HDD but first I want know which to buy. I think that hard drives are SATA or PATA. If you are having any suggestions then reply me. It can helpful to me.

You first find out what type of connection your motherboard uses. PATA (IDE) would be a wide 80 wire cable whereas SATA uses a much narrower connection.
