Plextor MediaX is a media external hard drive with capacities ranging from 160 GB, 320 GB and 500 GB, which can contain backups of our files and play media files through the player inside. Aesthetically MediaX is robust and solid; it contains a hard disk 2.5 "and integrates the electronics of a multimedia player with stereo audio outputs, component and composite vdeo.
The protective outer coating of rubber is required to prevent accidental contact with the cabinet and it can 'be changed to shells of other colors. MediaX has a basic set of buttons to turn it on, to navigate the menus and play multimedia content are also included in the remote control through which you can 'operate the device comfortably seated on the couch.
In the back are all the sockets: So are the mini USB 2.0 connector for power, without which you can 'use MediaX as a media player, the analog audio and video. What makes MediaX an interesting product, is the standard equipment rather rich: the multimedia hard drive comes in a convenient carrying case along with the USB cable, power adapter, component and composite video cables, a shell replacement and even a SCART adapter.
At the software level there are drivers for popular operating systems used and provide two handy utilities: Private Folder Manager, which lets you password protect private folders on the remote and invisible by setting a four-digit password and Playlist Manager, able to customize the execution sequence of media files. The performance of Plextor MediaX is very good in both audio and video and ease of use is remarkable.
Too bad that Plextor MediaX is unable to reproduce high-definition video up scaling but merely bringing the resolution to 720p. The most common formats such as DVD, DivX, XviD video and CD are read and reproduced without problems, another negative note about this time the sound: MediaX does not have the multi-channel audio output which makes you hear the sound only mode stereo.
