The second drive from Western Digital in this test, the My Passport Elite resembles the My Passport Essential. In fact the storage space of this drive is also the same, 320GB. Encased in a more premium looking silver casing with a black border running by the side, the Elite drive is absolutely smudge free. All the Western Digital Drives are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and can be easily slipped in to a pocket for mobility. The build quality of this one is decent. It is powered by the USB cable and supports only USB mode of connectivity.

Next to the USB port of the drive there are 4 LED lights that act as a data transfer indicator and storage meter. So, if the drive contains more data, the third LED may be switched on and if it contains less data, the first LED will be lit up. There is a slider as well that protects the USB connector of the drive. One of the major differences between the earlier reviewed Essential range of drives and Elite is the bundled software. The Elite range of drives come with automatic backup software. This helps in scheduling backups and backing up essential files when you attach in the drive to the PC.

There is also remote access software that comes bundled with the drive. This helps to access the drive data from a remote location if it is attached to the PC. This of course requires an internet connection. On the performance front, it is at par with the Essential range of drive reviewed here with average read speed of 36.3 MBps.
Compatible with both Windows and Mac. The drive comes with an USB cable and necessary manual.
