The third drive in the test from Western Digital is a high-end version in its Passport series. This one is a tad thicker than the other Western Digital drives in this test. On the connectivity front as well, besides supporting USB 2.0 it has a Firewire port as well. However, this one only supports Firewire 400 and not Firewire 800. Like other Western Digital drives, the My Passport Studio features a storage meter that gives you an approximate indication of the storage space of the drive.
This also acts as a slider to protect both the connectors on the drive when not in use. We tested the drive using both the connections, USB and Firewire. In the performance front, it clearly beat out its siblings in the test. Firewire connectivity offered some better results than the USB. In our average read speeds the drive delivered 37.7 MBps. Clearly ahead of Maxtor OneTouch Mini 4. The drive was pretty cool in operation and did not generate any heat. Available for Rs.ll,OOO, it comes with a five year warranty. For those who do not mind spending a few hundreds more, we would definitely recommend this as it offers good connectivity options
and speed.
