There's no shortage of external hard disks around if you need a bit more storage space. Freecom Hard Drive 500GB is such one device that features a mammoth 500GB hard drive. To power up this device, you need to plug in the bundled adapter with the drive. The drive uses USB 2.0 connection to link to the PC.
The device itself is a fairly simple affair from the outside: a brushed aluminium case with black plastic on the back and front. It's stylish enough as such things go. Aside from the connections on the back there is a power button as well. Once powered on, it displays a '500GB' illuminating blue LED on the front.

The drive is supplied with NTI Shadow for backup. This software can be used to choose specific files, folders or file types for backup. These are all fairly standard features as far as external hard disks go, so it would have been nice if Freecom had made them a little more accessible. This aside, we have no problems with the drive itself: it has a very solid feel, looks stylish and represents reasonable value for money.
