Previous 1 terabyte inner laptop disks have been 12.5mm thick – also large to set inside most laptops. Western Digital's One TB Scorpio Blue is a standard 9.5mm disk, so does not have this trouble.


Although the Scorpio Blue has a spindle velocity of only 5,400rpm, its function copying big documents was near to that of a 7,200rpm laptop disk. Big documents were written at 74.7MB/s and read at 101.8MB/s. It was too quick at reading little



documents, doing so at 69.9MB/s. It was so slow at writing little documents though, handling just 27MB/s – a trouble we have seen with last Scorpio disks.


If you can live with this function blemish, then the Scorpio Blue is a excellent value way to pack staggering quantity of memory into your laptop. It functions out at just 9p each gigabyte – the similar cost each gigabyte as 750GB disks. However, as this is the first 9.5mm One TB hard disk we have look it might be valuable waiting till fresh examples come before you purchase, as they might not suffer from the Scorpio Blue's little document function troubles.
