A power surge can badly damage your PC. Luckily, PC's power supply is built to take impact of any power variations. If you find that system no longer powers up after a surge, culprit is probably the power source. Luckily, replacing power supply is not as difficult as it sounds.
Instructions
1. Step 1
Decide the type and voltage of power supply. The simple place to find this is looking on back of the power supply installed in PC. There must be a sticker which gives information about supply. If you do not get there, then check PC manual. You must enable to find it online at PC Company’s website.
2. Step 2
Buy the proper power supply online or at a near computer store.
3. Step 3
Unplug PC. Remove any USB attached devices, printers, monitors, etc.
4. Step 4
Open computer case with screwdriver. Take out the screws and place them to one side.
5. Step 5
Ground yourself by touching a big metal object. This will dissolve static electricity in your body which can injure electronic parts.
6. Step 6
Find power supply. It is generally near the back of the case, where plug attaches to machine.
7. Step 7
Unplug the power supply from motherboard and peripherals. The power cables are generally multicolored and place into different drives and other internal devices by means of a socket at the end of power cable. The power cable connected to motherboard is generally safe with some kind of tab that you must press earlier than pulling on the socket.
8. Step 8
Remove screws of power supply from case. Check the back of the case for a sequence of screws in locality of the power plug and unscrew them. That must release the power supply.
9. Step 9
Take out power supply from the case.
10. Step 10
Put new power supply and screw into position.
11. Step 11
Plug the power supply back into motherboard. Connect the drives and peripherals.
12. Step 12
Put back the case cover and screw in there place.
13. Step 13
Plug in the PC and again connect any external devices like hard drives, printers, etc and monitors.
14. Step 14
Start your PC. It must boot into operating system as usual.
