Canon makes a range of inkjet printers that are able of printing high-quality photographs and color documents. All Canon printers utilize black ink cartridges; some Canon printers utilize a single color cartridge as other models have individual cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges. Installing a new ink cartridge in Canon printer is an easy process.

Installing a Cartridge

1. Step 1

Open the hood of printer; if the ink cartridge holder does not slide into view, check to ensure that printer is on.

2. Step 2

Remove any vacant cartridges from ink cartridge holder and dispose of them appropriately. Some Canon printers have a defensive cartridge cover that should be opened before you can alter a cartridge.

3. Step 3

Remove all safety tape and plastic film from new cartridge. Canon utilizes a bright orange safety tape on its ink cartridges. Some Canon ink cartridges also have a bright orange safety cap over the ink nozzle that should be removed before installation.

4. Step 4

Put new cartridge into ink cartridge holder. Tilt the cartridge up a little and put end-first into correct slot; push down softly on cartridge to lock it into place. Some Canon printers have an indicator light that will turn on when cartridge is installed; other models have a cartridge cover that will lock into place when stopped.

5. Step 5

Close the hood of the printer. The printer will show when it is ready for use with a message on LCD screen or by blinking the LED indicator light.
