Jumper pins on a hard drive set its state for PC. An external hard drive is set to a master drive, means it is main external drive for PC. Secondary drives are set as slaves, and they are started and utilized as backup partition and storage. When organizing jumper pins on a hard drive, you want to recognize white jump pins and move them to right place. You can set jumper pins by hand, or utilize tweezers to grasp hardware.

Instructions

1. Step 1

Look to the back of hard drive. Three blocks of arrangements and connections for hard drive. The pins on left are utilized to attach power cord. The pins on right are for IDE connection cable that connects to motherboard. The pin section in middle is jumper pin section. In this you get a white pin that is utilized to set hard drive.

2. Step 2

Look to the top section, straight over jumper pin section. This section labels every column of jumper pins. Look for the section labeled "MA." This is for main external drive, and it stands for "Master."

3. Step 3

Utilizing tweezers take out white jumper pin and connect it to pins labeled as "MA." Make sure the pin is firmly faceted to the pins.

4. Step 4

Turn off PC. Attach PCs cable and power source to hard drive. Turn the power back on and allow PC to boot. If PC does not boot, the cable or pins are not attached appropriately.

5. Step 5

Make sure the hard drive is displayed on PC. E.g. in Windows, you must notice a hard drive letter in "My Computer" sector. Double-click drive letter to open new drive storage. You can now copy and paste information from PC to the external hard drive.
