The processor is virtual "brain" of PC. However processor is not the only part that adds to speed of PC, a great processor is one of main factors. Each command and keystroke has to go through the processor before it display on screen or perform command in PC. The quicker the processor, task can be performed fast. If you are thinking of getting a new, faster processor, here is shown how.
Instructions
1. Step 1
Go to website page of processors and click on the links to various processor families. In processor families look at specifications and speeds of processors. There are three important methods of deciding speed of a processor. Initially it is speed, measured in GHz. The higher the speed processor is faster. Secondly L2 cache measured in MB. The L2 cache is type of like CPU's own RAM; the bigger the cache, faster PC operation will be. Lastly, there is Front Side Bus (FSB) speed. The FSB speed is speed that bits of data are fed through processor. FSB is measured in MHz. After you have an idea of processor you want, go to step two.
2. Step 2
Make sure that processor of choice will be well-suited with system. Do this by testing documentation for motherboard. See manual to search what its CPU socket type is. There will be different socket types on CPUs so make sure processor options match up with motherboard before going further. The socket type will be listed in specifications of any processor you see. Worth noting is that few motherboards inflict a limit for how high the FSB of a processor can be. As higher FSB processor will work with a lower FSB motherboard, processors must go by speed limit imposed by motherboard. Remember that as long as socket type is similar on both parts, they will be well-suited.
3. Step 3
Go to electronics store and look for processor. You must be able to get processor model you want.
4. Step 4
Choose on a processor. If you have already finished research in steps one and two, you must have idea of type you want. Select between models you chosen and include it to cart, ensuring that socket type of new processor will match motherboard. After bought you must get it in some days.
