Earlier than USB ports came in hordes on PCs, systems came with a variety of various serial ports. These ports are creation of tiny pins that send and receive data from hardware like printers and scanners. If you have an older PC with serial ports but want to attach to hardware only running a USB, you want to convert serial to a USB port.

Instructions

1. Step 1

Connect serial-to-USB adapter to serial port. This tool is having one end serial with other end USB. These devices can be bought online and at PC stores like Best Buy and Radio Shack.

2. Step 2

Fasten the adapter tight onto port. There are two screws, one on either side of the port. Fasten these firmly into make sure adapter is appropriately protected.

3. Step 3

Connect USB cable from hardware to USB end of the adapter.

4. Step 4

Power on hardware and put in driver installation disk for hardware into PC.

5. Step 5

Agree to license agreement then follow instructions to finish installation.
