Quad-core processors are amongst the fastest processors on market, boosting speed and working of PC that uses them. Evolving from dual-core systems, in which processors are split into two separate cores and included in a single-chip package, quad core depends on four cores for multiprocessing. The quad core's multiple-core processing system permits for fast speeds and multitasking, but it is not resistant to technical problems.
Types
1. Quad-core systems are sold by many makers and having range of models. Between the most popular models is Intel's Quad Core 2, which has of four separate cores firmly included to work as one single-chip processor. The Athlon 64 series of quad-core processors is composed not of four single cores but of two dual-core systems included to work as a four-core processor. All of these quad-core processors are vulnerable to same problems.
Problems
2. These processors are focus to problems that relate to incompatibility. These problems usually contain inability to utilize certain software as using a dual-core processor. Few software programs, as still working, are unable to utilize all four of the processor's cores. In this condition, programs will utilize a maximum of two of processor's cores.
Causes
3. Not all programs are intended to contain quad-core technology. This is as software programs were coded before quad-core processors were introduced. Also, quad-core-powered PC systems are restricted by other hardware parts of PC. Thus PC might not run as fast as one would expect because of restraints imposed by other parts in system.
Issues
4. Therefore of greater processing power and speed, quad-core processors have a leaning to overwork motherboard, which can cause overheating. Extreme heat can demolish circuit boards, which can finally cause electric shorts and hardware crashes.
Future
5. As quad-core systems have problems, they are l considered most advanced processors in market as of 2009. Most software applications are becoming quad-core friendly, and technologically advanced processors are expected to finally change dual-core processors, as dual-core processors have changed single-core processors.
