Whether it's for gaming or watching high-definition media on PC, there may be a cheaper way to speed up PC processor than wasting extra money for a new part. About each CPU can be overclocked, which is basically hacking the device to press each ounce of speed probable out of it. Overclocking can be hard work but beneficial in end as it can raise speed by 10 percent or more.
Instructions
Overclocking the CPU Manually
1. Step 1
Disconnect PC and any peripherals like keyboards, monitors and USB devices.
2. Step 2
Ground manually to rid your body of potentially harming static electricity. This can
be completed by just touching the metal part of PC case before touching any of electronic tools. Static electricity can fry and permanently harm machine.
3. Step 3
Find jumpers that manage the processor speed. These are couple of blue block similar to machines near processor.
4. Step 4
Take out blue cover from block to disclose a sequence of notches.
5. Step 5
Needle nose pliers utilized to fine-tune jumpers. This is where research will be useful. As each processor is special, there are various instructions to overclocking every model. Many cases, you are enabled to get particular information you want. Use search function to get specific CPU model.
6. Step 6
Change blue covers after jumpers have effectively been changed to generate larger speed in processor.
7. Step 7
Change power source and turn on PC. If PC will not boot, try to lower the clock speed of processor by some points.
Using the BIOS
Step 1
Restart PC and enter BIOS.
Step 2
Search a tab "CMOS Setup Utility" or "CPU Defaults" or somewhat like. Again, every
BIOS utility is intended particularly by company, so it can vary. If you cannot find an option to modify CPU defaults, you cannot overclock processor through BIOS and should utilize jumper method.
Step 3
Adjust CPU Bus Frequency to a figure beyond what is displayed. E.g. if frequency
displayed is 200, then modify it to 300.
Step 4
Below Health Status tab, be sure to allow option labeled "Protect CPU Overheating." This will protect CPU from getting too hot and harming machine.
Step 5
Push ESC key and select "Save and Exit."
