How to Assign a Drive Letter to a USB Device
These simple steps show how to assign a drive letter to a USB drive in XP so that "My Computer" will identify it simply.
Instructions
1. Step 1
Go to START, Right-click on My Computer, Click Manage.
The screen that shows is separated into three sections. Left screen shows Computer Management for specific PC; on right screen divided into two parts. Lastly top has information about hard drive (Disk 0), USB drive and CD-ROM 0 (DVD G.
2. Step 2
Click on the Disk Management.
Right-click anyplace on bottom part of Computer Management window that signifies USB drives and clicks on 'Change Drive Letter and Path'. On dialog that shows, click 'Change'.
3. Step 3
Ensure that radio knob 'Assign the Following Drive Letter' is selected. Beside it you must see a drop-down box with drive letters presently not allocated to any drives on local network.
Thus after you chose a proper drive letter click OK. A confirmation box will appears. Click YES.
