If old PC is still in working stage you must think about donating it to a friend or family member. If it’s really had its day and won’t be of any use to anybody then you must think about recycling it. On one hand PCs have valuable materials that can be simply re-utilized and on other they have lead, mercury and cadmium that must be disposed of appropriately.

Step 1
Ensure that you have all taken all the information you want off PC. To be on safe side you must clean the hard drive. There are many utilities you can utilize to get this completed.

Step 2
Think about keeping some parts that you want down the road e.g. cooling fan or hard drive.

Step 3
Test to see if company will take pc back. Many companies have programs that give choice of mailing pc back to them free of charge. Few companies accept other brands of PCs for a small fee. At least you have the calmness that PC will be recycled properly.

Step 4
Locate a decent recycling place. You can get electronics recycling places near to you.
