Microsoft launches Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 in 2003. The mouse aspects side-to-side scroll, along with usual up-and-down scroll wheel. Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 is a right-hand-only mouse, and is well-suited with Mac OS X, and XP and 2000 OS. Common Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 problems contain error messages reported throughout installation, scroll wheel problems and receiver-to-mouse connection problems.
Scroll Wheel Problems
1. As scroll wheel actually causes no problems, scrolling in an application can be erratic if "Horizontal Scrolling Speed" setting is set to fastest speed.
USB Problems
2. As Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 is a wireless mouse that interfaces with PC by attached USB receiver, its performance is slower than wired mice. The slower connection causes problems when playing PC games, and when working on a multimedia project that needs accuracy pointing-and-clicking.
Receiver-to-Mouse Problems
3. Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 should be synced with USB receiver for it to work. Because of radio frequency (RF) connection and normal interference in a home, receiver-to-mouse range is only about 6 1/2 feet. The user should also be cautious to not place receiver near electronics devices, or mouse unable to communicate with receiver.
Then PC users who have two cordless wheel mice must make sure that every mouse utilizes a different RF channel. Or else, mice will clash with one another.
Installation Problems
4. In Windows 2000 or in XP, PC may report error messages when installing Intellimouse Explorer 2.0. These error messages contain "USB Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer has not passed Windows logo checking to confirm its compatibility with XP" and other driver error messages. The driver software contains a file named "Ipfilter.ini." A corrupted Ipfilter.inf file and failed software installation cause these error messages to happen.
Mac Problems
5. Once installing Intellipoint software, Mac users get an "Error 1010" message. Intellipoint Control Panel also displays a red "X" over mouse graphic. Microsoft packages its mice with Intellipoint software, which permits user to organize mouse and also installs needed mouse drivers. Macs that do not meet system necessities can cause this error. Error 1010 can also show a corrupt IntelliPoint installation or that there is a USB connection issue. Receivers should attach directly with a USB port, and not interface with a USB hub.
