Backing up files on hard drive to an exterior USB flash drive is simple. Follow these steps to simply back up files and prevent losing them in a hard drive crash. If you are using a various OS the steps will be same but could differ.

Instructions

1. Step 1

Ensure USB Flash Drive is big enough to contain what you want to save. If you only want to save sure files from hard drive to flash drive go to folder that has files you want to save, right tick on folder, and view properties. This will tell you size of contents of folder.

2. Step 2

Attach USB flash drive to PC or laptop.

3. Step 3

Select files to back up to flash drive by using right mouse button to click Start button and selecting Explore. This displays all drives and files on PC. You must see external drive. It will possibly be E and named removable disk.

4. Step 4

Choose folder or files that you want to back up to exterior flash drive. Go to file you want to copy and click. Push left mouse button and drag file or folder you want copy to removable disk drive. After cursor is over removable disk drive file take your finger off the left mouse button. You will see a box appears displaying files being copied from hard drive to flash drive.

5. Step 5

After box disappears files and folders are completed moving. You will see them show in removable drive now. Repeat these steps for all folders that want backed up.
