Though USB port is general place on all new PCs, a system that is dated by a few years may not have a USB port. Before USB port, PCs came with serial ports. These ports are invented of a sequence of pins that attach PC to outside devices like printers and scanners. If you have an older PC with serial port but want to attach a new device that only utilizes USB connectors, you want to convert serial port to USB.

Instructions

1. Step 1

Move PC so you have obvious access to rear of device. This is where serial port is going to be.

2. Step 2

Put in serial-to-USB adapter in serial port. Adapter, probably, is going to screw into serial port on PC. These adapters can be bought at most electronic shops and online also.

3. Step 3

Put in USB cable of hardware into adapter. The serial port is going to perform like a USB port.

4. Step 4

Turn the power on hardware and PC.
