Many years ago, using a game pad on a PC was a twisted muddle of driver installations and serial cables. With arrival of USB and plug-and-play compatibility, using a "controller" with a PC is matter of connecting controller into proper port and configuring buttons in OS.
Instructions
1. Step 1
Connect gamepad into proper port on PC. Ensure it is connected in tightly.
2. Step 2
Listen for OS to make a system noise, recognizing that gamepad is attached. Wait for OS to install appropriate drivers.
3. Step 3
If controller comes with software of any type, put disk in optical drive and follow screen prompts to install. Run installed software and locate "options" or "configuration" tab. set the suitable bindings for every button.
4. Step 4
If there is no devoted software, run "game pad" control panel or preference pane. In Windows XP, it is placed in "joysticks" sector. In Vista and 7, it is placed in "hardware" sector. Click "configuration" tab. Click on every binding and allocate a gamepad button to all.
5. Step 5
Check button assignments in control panel window to ensure that they are all working appropriately.
6. Step 6
In game or application, open "options" menu and organize controllers’ buttons for particular application.
