If you are going to insert extra RAM to PC or if you want to upgrade RAM to a quicker speed, firstly check what RAM speed you contain. The speed is not listed in directly available place, but it generally is not hard to decide.
What is RAM Speed?
1. RAM is memory that PC utilizes. It does not save continuing information like hard drive, but it is where processor saves information as it is working on a task. Information in RAM is gone when PC is turned off. Speed of RAM is a thing of how fast that information is send. Though, going from middle of the road average speed RAM to top of the line bleeding edge speedy RAM is not generally worth it for average person. The price can be five times higher, as delivering less than double speed. The speed will also only be clearly different when dealing with long, complex operations like working with large video files. The number associated with RAM speeds is not linear in terms of what you obtain. If you have DDR 800, DDR 16000 must not be expected to be accurately double the increase in speed.
Checking RAM
2. There are many methods you can try to distinguish RAM speed. When PC starts up, press proper key to enter BIOS. The commands for what key to press will flash on screen when PC starts. After entering BIOS, scroll through menus until you find memory information. RAM speed may be listed there. There are also hardware profile software programs that will examine PC and tell you information about hardware. Such program is Belarc System Advisor. There are also memory-checking programs like memtest86+ that will discover this information.
