How to Replace a Key on an HP Pavilion Keyboard

Laptop keys can break down if they have sticky liquids spilled on them or if they are constantly pressed too difficult. If a keyboard key on HP Pavilion laptop has become fixed or is no longer working, you do not want to change keyboard or purchase a fully new laptop. In its place you can pop off old key and easily change it with a new one that is working appropriately after cleaning out anything material was causing key to stick.

Instructions

1. Step 1

Close HP Pavilion laptop's OS. Press clogged top LCD screen cover, and then flips laptop upside down.

2. Step 2

Press battery release bar to right, and then pull battery out of HP Pavilion laptop. Flip laptop back over and open up LCD screen cover.

3. Step 3

Find key you want to change. Slither a thin and flat thing like knife or edge of a screwdriver, under side of key. Pop key up and off keyboard.

4. Step 4

Utilize two tweezers to remove little plastic hinge part if it did not come off with key. Dip a cotton swab into a bottle of cleaning alcohol. Wash off area where key was placed.

5. Step 5

Place new plastic hinge that came with substitute key in open hole on keyboard. Place substitute key on keyboard and press down until it snaps into position.

6. Step 6

Put battery back into HP Pavilion laptop and power on PC.
