Though technology has been around for decades, LED newly becomes a feasible option for marketable lighting applications. There are many advantages to using LED light fixtures in street lighting applications.
Energy Consumption
1. When compare LED to metal Halide road lighting, there is usually a 50 percent energy decrease with similar light levels. E.g. a 250-watt metal halide fixture would frequently be changed by a 125 to 150 watt LED fixture.
Rated Life
2. As most capable pulse-start metal halide lamps are rated for 25,000 hours, LEDs are rated for over 100,000 hours of handy life.
Environmental Considerations
3. Metal halide lamps have high amounts of mercury and therefore have linked disposal worries. LED fixtures have no mercury or lead, and are limit of dangerous materials compliant.
Lumen Maintenance
4. At starting of a metal halide lamp's operation, it puts out a high quantity of valuable light. By end of its rated life, lamp is down to about 60 percent of its original light output. Not only do LEDs last longer, but at end of their rated life they are still generating over 90 percent of their original light output.
Start/Restrike Time
5. A metal halide lamp takes wherever from four to six minutes to warm up and produce light, and even longer to restrike if power is momentarily lost. LEDs are immediate on, meaning they take no time to warm up.
