Having the memory substituted in a Mac Mini by a professional is costly. You can save much money by doing it manually. Though, Apple has created it quite hard to do yourself as they want you to utilize their certified technicians. They have even made it so that warranty is voided if you try this manually. With that said, here are steps to change memory in Mac Mini.

Instructions

1. Step 1

Firstly, you must get into PC. Shut down PC, disconnect all cables and ensure you are not holding a static charge by touching few metals first.

On test, you will not see any screws or a simple way to pop the cover off. This is where the knife and razor blade enter.

Turn over Mac Mini. Place opening to disk drive away from you. On either side, put in razor blade or pocket knife between white plastic and metal case. It's a tight fit and just utilizes knife or blade to make sufficient room for putty knife. Do not push knife in too far or you will cut some gray foam.

Put in knife and interfere open box. Work your escape the three sides. You will hear some "crack, snapple and pop" as plastic clips disconnect.

After all three sides are loosened, slide the cover off.

2. Step 2

Take off the air port antennae. This is part near power button on back of machine. To take out this, squeeze two black clips and it will pop off. Put spring in a safe position as you analyze the rest of machine.

3. Step 3

Take out 4 screws. Be cautious to remove proper screws. They are black and in four corners of PC on bottom. The front left screw is apparent. The other three screws are in plastic "tubes" and can't be seen without a good light. One screw is under air port antennae.

4. Step 4

At front of machine, there is a tiny power plug. You will see a tiny cable next to battery. You want to disconnect this. Softly pull this plug straight up and out. It will pop out of its socket.

5. Step 5

The framework is still attached by some wires in back. This is fine. Just lift the framework straight up and softly turn it over back. Now RAM is exposed.

6. Step 6

There are two metal hinges holding in every RAM chip. Pull two hinges away from RAM. RAM will pop up at an angle of about 25 degrees. Cautiously pull out RAM at this angle. Repeat with second chip.

7. Step 7

Place first RAM chip into lower slot. Set it at 25 degree angle. After it is in, press it down and hinges will snap around it and hold it in place. Do again with the second chip.

8. Step 8

Now, you want to put Mac Mini back together.

Put the framework back in place.
Again connect the small plug in front, but pushing it in.
Put four screws back in. A fascinating screwdriver is simple.
Again connect the airport antennae.

9. Step 9

Check that Mac Mini is working earlier than putting cover back on.

Connect in all cables. Zap PRAM as you start up.

If all goes fine, power down, and remove all cables.

10. Step 10

If you have a Macintosh keyboard, you can press P, R, Option, Apple keys during start up. Do not let go until you hear chime ring three times. In keyboard, then want to zap PRAM by black knob in Mac. It appears like a ring.

11. Step 11

Place the cover back on by lining it up over PC and pressing it back on.

Connect cables back in, power it up and you are ready to go.
