Using an Apple Aluminum Keyboard on a Windows PC
Many think Apple ultra thin aluminum keyboard to be smart keyboards ever. The design is so sleek that few PC users have been enthused to utilize it on their own PCs. Being a USB device, Apple keyboard will work in Windows without any problem. Though, a few keys found on keyboards intended for Windows are lost on Apple keyboards. Utilize a keyboard mapper to recover functionality lost by keys that Apple keyboard does not have; these steps display how to utilize Key Tweak program, but other keyboard mappers must work also.
Instructions
1. Step 1
Attach Apple the ivories to USB port on PC, and detach any other keyboards that are attached.
2. Step 2
Switch on PC. Windows XP, Vista, and 7 will identify the new device as an Apple keyboard and install drivers mechanically. The standard letter and number keys will work precisely as they would on a PC keyboard.
3. Step 3
Download and mount Key Tweak, a free utility supported by donations. Run the program.
4. Step 4
Click "Half Teach Mode" knob. Click "Scan a Single Key," and then push key on keyboard that wants to remap. E.g.if you want to utilize Command key as Windows logo key, push it. Click "Destination Key" drop-down and select key you want to map; you would select Windows logo key in above example. Click "Remap" to finalize the change.
5. Step 5
Do again Step 4 for every key that you want to remap. E.g. Apple keyboard has no Print Screen key, so you want to utilize Eject key for this reason, as Eject key has no equal function in Windows. Other keys lost from Apple keyboard that you want to remap contain Scroll Lock, Num Lock, and Pause and Application keys.
