CPU in Gateway PC handles all processes that software programs want. A quicker processor will result in enhanced PC performance like quicker load times and ability to have extra programs start together. You can upgrade processor in Gateway PC with a quicker model if you plan on installing new software programs. Changing processor is a fast process, but it can be challenging for people who are not comfortable opening up their PCs.

1. Step 1

Allow Gateway PC to run for as a minimum 10 min to permit thermal heat sink pad to heat up. Close PC.

2. Step 2

Attain at the back the Gateway PC case and detach power cable and all other cords. Place whole case on its side.

3. Step 3

Ensure back edge of case to see if model of Gateway PC utilizes screws. Press down on both release latches or utilize screwdriver to remove case screws.

4. Step 4

Pull side access panel off PC case. Find cooling fan and heat sink assembly that cover processor, which must be placed at middle of motherboard.

5. Step 5

Detach multicolored cable running from cooling fan to rectangular port. Pull back retention clips placed on both sides of cooling fan. Raise cooling fan off heat sink.

6. Step 6

Grasp sides of metal heat sink and raise it off processor. Do not touch thermal pad on heat sink.

7. Step 7

Raise retention cap placed beside processor. Grasp both sides of processor with ends of CPU removal tool. Raise processor up with removal tool and set it outer case.

8. Step 8

Line up pins on bottom of substitute processor with holes on motherboard socket. Press processor down and then press down retention cap.

9. Step 9

Put heat sink onto latest processor and then reconstruct cooling fan. Place the side access panel back onto PC case.

10. Step 10

Connect Gateway PCs power cable. Switch on PC.
