Asus P4PE is an Intel-based motherboard. It aspects four USB 2.0/1.1 ports along with a on board connector that permits installation of two extra ports. As USB 2.0-ready, user should install the right USB 2.0 drivers and may still incident problems when upgrading to XP SP2. Intel ICH4 chipset on P4PE also cause problems in Windows 98 or XP. ICH4 USB 2.0 Incompatibility

1. Asus P4PE owners with Windows 98 or XP installed may find a yellow exclamation point beside USB port in Device Manager. Yellow exclamation point show that PC has installed either incorrect driver or no driver at all. Users must install an updated driver that makes USB 2.0 well-suited with motherboard's Intel ICH4 chipset.

Selective Suspend Problem

2. Asus P4PE owners who utilize Windows XP or Server 2003 may incident a problem with PC being unable to read USB port after user inserts and removes USB devices "rapidly and continually." The user must keep in many steps to solve this problem, containing scanning for hardware changes in Device Manager and disabling and re-enabling USB controller.

As a final resort, users must disable the Selective Suspend option, means all USB devices attached to PC will keep on to draw power as connected into USB port. Microsoft offers a "Fix It" automatic wizard that will change registry and disable Selective Suspend.

USB Reference Voltage

3. Asus P4PE contains a USB Reference Voltage setting in BIOS. The user can fine-tune voltage to Low, Medium, High or Maximum. Few users have reported that configuring voltage setting to "Low" allows usage of USB ports that earlier did not work, and permits higher-powered USB devices to work when they earlier did not.
Wake via USB Keyboard Problems

4. Asus P4Pe owners cannot utilize a USB keyboard with wake-up by keyboard command aspect. USB keyboards should utilize a USB to PS/2 adapter and attach through PS/2 port to utilize this aspect. Asus has not out a BIOS update that will support wake on USB keyboard command.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 Problem

5. Few Asus P4PE owners have incident problems with XP not identifying USB 2.0 ports only USB 1.1 after upgrading to SP2. Users must uninstall USB drivers, restart, and then permit Windows to reinstall drivers to restore USB 2.0 functionality. If this does not solve the problem, Asus P4PE owner should reinstall XP.
